Island ist einfach traumhaft. Gerade im Westen der Insel gibt es richtig viel zu entdecken 😉. Und da es so viel ist, musste ich die Beiträge glatt noch unterteilen. Ich habe euch hier die Sehenswürdigkeiten rund um Reykjavik zusammegefasst.
Zum diesem „kleinen“ Zipfel der Insel gehören übrigens die folgenden Gebiete:
- Suðurnes (Südwest)
- Höfuðborgarsvæðið (Hauptstadtgebiet)
Wie viel Zeit braucht man hier?
Ich selbst habe nicht alle Sehenswürdigkeiten geschafft, aber das lag einfach an der mir verfügbaren Zeit. Insgesamt war ich hier im Hauptstadgebiet nur ungefähr einen Tag unterwegs und würde rückwirkend betrachtet gut einen halben Tag mehr einplanen, vielleicht sogar einen ganzen Tag um auch in Reykjavik mehr entdecken zu können.
Meine Empfehlung für euch für die beiden Gebiete: 2 Tage bis maximal 3 Tage wären super, wenn ihr einen Roadtrip macht. Da schafft man alles bequem abzufahren und hat echt viel erlebt und gesehen. Wenn ihr aber nur Touren von hier aus machen wollt, dann plant deutlich mehr Zeit ein, denn die Touren zu den etwas entfernteren Sehenswürdigkeiten dauern immer wieder mal einen ganzen Tag.
Die Straßenverhältnisse
In diesen Gebieten sind die Straßen fast alle asphaltiert. Hier wird es euch noch wie eine Besonderheit vorkommen, wenn ihr mal auf eine Schotterpiste kommt.
Was gibts alles zu sehen und zu entdecken?
Gleich vorweg: Echt wahnsinnig viel. Ich weiß ja nicht wie es euch immer so geht, aber ich kann mich für jeden Wasserfall begeistern. Auch wenn ich zuvor schon 10 gesehen habe 🙂.
Und da mir auch Laufen nicht wirklich was ausmacht, bin ich auch mal eben bei einem spontanen Halt rund eine Stunde zu Fuß bis zu einem Wasserfall gewandert und geklettert.
Wenn ihr da genauso verrückt seid wie ich, dann braucht ihr für alle Regionen die vier Tage 😉. Ansonsten reicht auch weniger.
Da es aber nun so viel hier gibt, habe ich euch die Sehenswürdigkeiten mal in eigene Beiträge gepackt. Ansonsten wäre dieser hier so ewig lang, dass ihr nichts mehr wiederfinden würdet.

Suðurnes (Südwest)
Die Brücke zwischen Amerika und Europa
Ok, das ist wirklich soooo mega cool. Hier in Island treffen die europäische und die amerikanische Kontinentalplatte aufeinander. Klar, Island ist ja auch eine Vulkaninsel, aber dass man die Spalte zwischen den PLatten richtig sehen und sogar darin herumlaufen kann – wow.
Fahrt nach Möglichkeit richtig zeitig los. Ok, in Island ist zeitig so gegen 8 in der Früh :D. Aber dann habt ihr dieses fleckchen Erde sicherlich ganz für euch allein. Bei mir war es zumindest so 🙂.
Über die beiden Kontinentalplatten ist eine Brücke gespannt. Von der aus kann man dann auch in etwa erahnen, wie der Verlauf dieser Verwerfung durch ist. Einfach atemberaubend und auch ein bisschen einschüchternd, wenn man dann so in der Verwerfung steht und darüber nachdenkt, dass sich die Felsen rechts und links von einem bewegen können 🙂.
Blaue Lagune • Bláa Lónið
Die Blaue Lagune ist eine Badelanschaft, deren Wasser aus heißen Quellen in natürliche Becken fließt. Soviel gleich vorweg: ich war hier nicht baden. Zum einen ist die Lagune ein – wenn nicht sogar der Touristenmagnet schlechthin. Zum anderen ist der Eintritt echt übertrieben teuer und das war ich dann auch nciht bereit zu zahlen, zumal es noch einige weitere heiße Quellen auf Island gibt, die nichts kosten 😉.
Aber man kann hier auch so schön entlang spazieren, um den abgesperrten Bereich herum. Entlang der hellblauen Seen mit teilweise dampfend heißem Wasser. Das ist so schon atemberaubend.
Übrigens: der Grund dafür, das hier so viele Touris sind, ist die direkte Nähe zu Reykjavik. Deswegen kommen hier täglich mehrere hundert her um zu baden und planschen. Wenn euch hier also wie mir zu viel los ist zum Baden, dann kommen auf dem weiteren roadtrip noch einige weitere Möglichkeiten auf ein Bad in heißen Quellen 😉.
Hausruine • Selatangar
Das ist eine Sehenswürdigkeit, die ich leider nicht mitgenommen habe. Ich musste da wieder zurück zum Flughafen fahren und den Mietwagen umtauschen 😅.
Aber dennoch kann ich euch den Ort empfehlen, wenn ihr nur um Reykjavik herum unterwegs seid. Erst dachte ich nämlich, hier gibt es nur die Küste und den Ausblick, aber ich habe mich geirrt. Beim weiteren recherchieren kam ich darauf, dass es hier ein typisches altes isländisches Haus bzw. die Reste davon zu sehen und bestaunen gibt.
Wenn ihr um die Insel herum fahrt und nicht nur hier im Südwesten bleibt, dann findet ihr aber noch mehr davon 😉.
Felsspalte • Lambafellsgjá
Noch eine Sehenswürdigkeit, die ich ausgelassen habe. Allerdings muss ich auch dazu sagen, dass ich die nicht auf dem Plan hatte und erst im Nachhinein entdeckt habe.
Aber die Bilder sehen so schön aus, dass es sich bestimmt lohnt und deshalb hab ich sie mit für euch aufgenommen.
Die Felsspalte, um die es hier geht, ist ca. 150 Meter lang und begehbar. Aber Achtung, es kann durchaus etwas rutschig und glitschig sein. Es gibt hier einen Parkplatz, von dem aus ihr ca. 1,5 Kilometer laufen müsst. Aber um den Parkplatz auf Google Maps zu finden, müsst ihr schon ganz schön weit rein zoomen.
Und das ist auch der Grund, wieso ich diese Sehenswürdigkeit nicht direkt gefunden und für mich markiert hatte 😅. Vielleicht könnt ihr ja ein bisschen berichten 😉.
Großer See • Kleifarvatn Lake
Ein wirklich wunderschöner großer See, an dem es ein paar schöne Aussichtspunkte direkt an der Straße gibt. Wenn ihr Glück habt, dann geht auch kein Wind und das Wasser ist ganz ruhig. Dann spiegelt sich auch das andere Ufer traumhaft darin.
Oder euch geht es wie mir und es ist bewölkt. Aber auch so hat es sich gelohnt, denn der See ist wirklich beeindruckend groß. Außerdem hatten das Licht-Wolkenspiel echt was faszinierendes und schönes.
Kleiner See • Reykjanesfólkvangur
Mich hat die „Straße“ 417 weiter in Richtung Norden geführt. Allerdings ist es keine wirkliche Straße, eher ein loser Schotterweg. Also stellt euch schon mal auf eine richtige Holperpiste ein. Und ja, die kann man mit jedem Auto fahren 😅.
Und hier hatte ich mir zwei Sehenswürdigkeiten markiert, die ich aber beide letztendlich nicht besucht hatte. Der kleine See ist die erste davon.
Warum habe ich mir das nun nicht angesehen werdet ihr euch fragen. Einfache Antwort: ich habe den kleinen See einfach nicht gefunden. Vermutlich bin ich da einfach vorbei gefahren, oder Google Maps hat einfach den falschen Standort eingezeichnet, aber leider habe ich diesen schönen See verpasst.
Dabei sieht der See auf den Bildern echt toll aus. Auch muss hier in der Nähe noch eine Quelle sein, allerdings keine zum Baden. Wenn ihr diesen See im Gegensatz zu mir findet, dann schaut ihn euch mal an. Ich mache das dann beim nächsten Besuch in Island 😉.
Begehbarer Vulkan • Thrihnukagigur Volcano
Und das ist die zweite Sehenswürdigkeit nahe der Straße 417, die ich nicht angesehen habe. Allerdings lag das nicht daran, dass ich den Vulkan nicht gefunden habe, sondern an dem Transport dahin.
Von der 417 aus kommt man hier nicht hin. Ihr müsst also außen herum fahren. Und dann gibt es da noch ein Problem: ihr. müsst vorher eine Tour buchen. Ohne geht es nicht. Und da lag dann auch mein Problem: ich wusste das nicht und mir war es dann auch ein bisschen zu teuer.
Wenn ihr euch für die Tour entscheidet, dann wandert ihr – begleitet von Guides – ca. eine Stunde bis zum Eingang des Vulkans. Dann werdet ihr 120 Meter weit in den Vulkan hinein gelassen – mit einem Korb wie ihn die Fensterputzer nutzen 😅. Dann habt ihr ca. 30 Minuten zum herumlaufen in der Lavakammer.
Was ich davon auf den Bilder gesehen habe war echt beeindruckend. Aber eben leider nicht live. Ich denke aber, dass ich diese Tour auch das nächste Mal auslassen werde, da sie mir mit Angeboten um 44.000 ISK (rund 320 Euro) dann doch viel zu teuer ist. Dabei könnt ihr euch dann aber direkt an eurem Hotel in Reykjavik abholen lassen oder auch selbst anreisen.
Höfuðborgarsvæðið (Hauptstadtgebiet)
Sehenswürdigkeiten in Reykjavik
Gleich noch vorweg: ich habe nur einen Tag in Reykjavik verbracht und der war auch noch verregnet. So habe ich mir dann nur wenig angeschaut, da die Stadt schon durch das Wetter wenig einladend auf mich wirkte. Allerdings müssen hier viele schöne Ecken versteckt sein, die ich nicht besucht habe. Daher gibt es nur die Sehenswürdigkeiten, die ich selbst erkundet habe.
Hallgrimskirche
Ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt – ja, kann man so sagen 🙂. Die auffällige Kirche steht auf einer Anhöhe, sodass man sie quasi schon von weiten sieht. Wobei das natürlich im Gewirr der kleinen Straßen etwas anders aussieht 😅
Die Kirche ist in einem sehr modernen Stil gebaut und man kann tagsüber immer rein. Es gibt auch die Möglichkeit, den 73 Meter hohen Turm zu besteigen, jedoch hat bei meinem Besuch das Wetter absolut nicht gepasst.
Außerdem war die Schlange so lang, dass ich mich da nicht noch mit reindrängen wollte. Also macht euch bei schönem Wetter auf eine gute Wartezeit gefasst.
Die Kirche selbst ist recht spartanisch ausgestattet, hat aber eine wunderschöne Orgel. Vielleicht habt ihr auch Glück wie ich und es übt gerade der Orgelspieler, dann könnt ihr dem ganz genau über die Finger schauen 😉
Regenbogensraße
Ich nehme mal an, dass ihr euch darunter nun nicht so viel vorstellen könnt. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Straße, die in den Farben eines Regenbogens angemalt ist.
Entstanden ist dieses Kunstwerk im Zuge der Gestaltung der Streetarts, wobei Streetart hier nun wörtlich zu nehmen ist 😅
Wenn ihr euch das selbst anschauen wollt, dann folgt der Straße „Skólavörðustígur“ in Richtung der Querstraße „Bankastræti“. So kommt ihr direkt auf das Streetart zu 😉
Streetarts
Und da wir gerade schon bei Streetarts waren – In Reykjavik gibt es einige zu entdecken. Mal auffällig an der ganzen Fassade eines Hauses, mal eher unauffällig und fast schon versteckt hinter Bäumen. Es gibt einige zu finden und die sind zum Teil richtig gut gemacht.
Ich kann diese jetzt zwar nicht mit denen aus Georgetown Malaysia vergleichen, aber dennoch richtig schöne Kunstwerke. Also geht doch einfach mal auf Entdeckungstour und schaut, welche ihr so findet 😉
Heißer Fluss • Reykjadalur
Nicht weit von Reykjavik entfernt gibt es neben der Blue Lagoon noch eine kostenfreie Möglichkeit, ein kleines Bisschen im warmen Wasser zu plantschen.
Allerdings solltet ihr nicht zu viel erwarten, denn der Andrang hier ist echt übertrieben groß. Kein Wunder bei der Nähe zu Reykjavik, denn es gibt ganze Touren die Massen an Touristen hier her schaffen.
Nun zu dem heißen Fluss selbst: ich war nicht drin 😅 Als ich den Berg hinauf gelaufen bin hat es immer mehr und mehr geregnet sodass ich umdrehen musste, um nicht noch ganz nass zu werden. Der Fluss selbst erstreckt sich recht weit und es scheint – zumindest den Bildern nach – genügend Platz für die ganzen Leute zu geben. Allerdings muss man schon ein ganzes Stückchen bergauf laufen 😉
Ich konnte den Besuch auch nicht nachholen, da ich hier am letzten Tag meines Roadtrips war. Also steht das jetzt mit auf der Liste für den nächsten Ausflug nach Island 😊
Öxarárfoss Wasserfall
Der Öxarárfoss ist ein wunderschöner und verhältnismäßig kleiner Wasserfall direkt am Þingvallavatn See. Das schöne hier: die Wege sind ausgebaut und man kann angenehm laufen. Das unschöne: Den meisten Leuten ist egal, dass sie nicht vom Weg abweichen sollen und trotzdem in das Moos treten.
Der Wasserfall selbst ist malerisch schön – perfekt für ein paar Fotos geeignet, insofern mal weniger Leute hier sind. Vor allem kann man bedenkenlos auf die großen Steine direkt vor dem Wasserfall um hier ein paar andere Perspektiven zu haben. Außerdem schafft man es so, mal fast keine Leute auf dem bild zu haben 😉
Felsformation Lögberg
Von den Öxarárfoss Wasserfällen aus könnt ihr direkt ein paar Meter weiterlaufen wenn ihr euch noch Lögberg anschauen wollt. Lögberg ist eine natürliche Felsformation, auch Gesetztesfelsen genannt. Grund dafür ist, dass die Wikinger damals ihre Gesetzte an dieser Stelle verkündet haben bzw. darüber abgestimmt haben. Heute ist hier symbolisch die isländische Flagge gehisst um daran zu erinnern.
Leider sind hier durch die Nähe zur Hauptstadt auch extrem viele Besucher unterwegs, sodass sich der Besuch nur lohnt, wenn ihr sowieso zu den Öxarárfoss Wasserfällen fahrt.
Übrigens, auf dem weg zwischen den Wasserfällen und Lögberg ist auch noch eine schöne kleine und natürliche Anstauung des Wassers aus dem Wasserfall entstanden. Im richtigen Winkel ein super Fotomotiv 😉
Glymur Wasserfälle
Dieser Wasserfall und der Track dahin sind ein echter Tip und ich bin froh, dass ich den Weg auf mich genommen habe. Das müsst ihr einfach gesehen haben.
Also zuerst einmal: feste Schuhe und je nach Wetter eine Regenjacke sind Pflicht, denn der Weg zieht sich ein bisschen. Und wie war ich unterwegs: zwar mit Wanderschuhen aber nur mit einer Strickjacke – und es hat angefangen zu regnen 😂🙈
Das schwierige hier ist, dass der Weg nur wenig bis gar nicht gekennzeichnet ist und ein kleines bisschen Glück dazu gehört, dass man den richtigen Trampelpfad erwischt. Aber macht euch nicht zu viele Gedanken, im schlimmsten Fall seid ihr einfach ein paar Minuten länger in der schönen Natur unterwegs 😊
Auf dem Weg zu den Wasserfällen lauft ihr durch ein Flussbett, auch zum Teil durch flaches Wasser, über Stock und Stein. Aber der Ausblick ist der Hammer, einfach unbeschreiblich.
Dann kommt ihr zu einer natürlichen Höhle, durch die ihr hindurch müsst. Für mich war das ganz praktisch, da konnte ich mich kurz vor dem Regen verstecken 😊
Dann geht es von der Höhle runter zum Fluss und ein paar Meter den Fluss entlang. Und dann? Nunja, dann geht es über den recht breiten und knietiefen Fluss. Aber keine Angst, im Normalfall werdet ihr nicht nass (außer es regnet wie bei mir, dann von oben).
Über den Fluss liegt ein großer und massiver Baumstamm, über den geht der Weg. Hier ist ein wenig Geschicklichkeit gefragt, zumindest wenn der Stamm nass und glitschig ist. Man kann sich zwar an einem Seil festhalten, das ist aber recht lose gespannt und im Zweifelsfall nur wenig nützlich. Und nochmals: Ja, das ist der offizielle Weg 😉
Wenn ihr nun noch trocken seid, also nicht in den Fluss gefallen, dann geht der Weg für euch weiter den Fluss entlang. Erst geht es angenehm gerade hin, dann leicht bergauf und dann… dann steil bergauf – über loses Geröll und größere Steine. Auch hier sind Seile zum festhalten gespannt, theoretisch. Die sind nur an Eisenstangen festgebunden die in das Geröll gesteckt wurden und geben entsprechend schnell nach (eigene Erfahrung 🙈). Also passt ein bisschen auf euch und die Leute um euch herum auf.
Oben angekommen schlängelt sich der Weg dann an der Schlucht entlang. Immer wieder gibt es die Möglichkeit, auf Vorsprünge zu gehen um schöne Fotos zu machen. Allerdings steht man hier direkt am Felsrand und muss echt arg aufpassen.
Noch ein Stückchen weiter kommt ihr dann zu einem Punkt, an dem der Weg nach rechts abbiegt und gute hundert Meter weiter dann über einen Fluss geht. Von diesem Punkt aus habt ihr aber schon einen atemberaubenden Blick in die Schlucht vor euch. Der Wasserfall, nein, die Wasserfälle fallen von mehreren Seiten in das Tal. Ich stand hier bestimmt 15 Minuten und habe einfach nur gegrinst weil ich es so schön fand. Ok, ich bin echt verrückt nach Wasserfällen, einige von euch verstehen das vielleicht 😅
Wenn ihr noch näher heran wollt, dann müsst ihr einfach den Weg weiter folgen. Ich bin hier wieder umgekehrt, weil der Regen wieder eingesetzt hat und meine Strickjacke dann auch durch war. Hätte ich nur meine Regenjacke angezogen 🤦♂️
Þórufoss Wasserfall
Ein wunderschöner großer Wasserfall und auf jeden Fall einen Halt wert. Aber hier braucht ihr etwas festeres Schuhwerk, denn ihr müsst erst in das Tal hinab laufen – oder eher einen losen teilweise etwas steileren Trampelpfad hinab klettern. Aber das lohnt sich 😉
Alternativ könnt ihr es auch machen wie ich und einfach eure Drohne losschicken. Aber ich muss dazu gestehen, dass ich auch noch einiges an dem Tag vor hatte und sowieso mit der Drohne geflogen bin. Und dann war die Zeit schon wieder viel zu schnell rum 😅
Fossarétt Wasserfall
Noch etwas weiter zu fahren und eigentlich auch nur lohnenswert, wenn ihr sowieso in diese Richtung wollt ist der Fossarétt Wasserall und die Ruinen.
Vom Parkplatz aus geht es etwas bergab und dann über eine kleine süße Brücke. Und hier könnt ihr dann die Grundmauern eines alten Gebäudes sehen.
Ein kleines Stückchen weiter gibt es dann noch einen kleinen aber schönen Wasserfall 😍
Wie gesagt, Ich wäre nicht extra hier her gefahren, wenn mein Roadtrip mich nicht sowieso in diese Richtung geführt hätte.
